Sebastian Lionfish Fest
Be A Sponsor!
After a huge inaugural event in 2016, and spectacular turnouts in 2017 and 2018, we’re back again, looking to make our fourth event bigger, better, and even more impactful. Together, we can highlight the environmental and financial impacts of the lionfish, support fishing and diving interests, and create an opportunity for the public to try a new delectable dinner dish. Support can come in many forms such as: monetary contributions, company products, gift certificates, assistance, or donations.
Welcome to the Sebastian Lionfish Fest (SLF) family! We look forward to our partnership for the 4th annual SLF while we protect our coastal habitats by removing lionfish, educating others of their impacts, and serving them up as a delicious delicacy. Last year the event exploded with a crowd of 550 people at the festival and 4 fishing teams. Festival attendees devoured over 1,200 lionfish while our fishing teams removed another 300 lionfish from reefs in the Treasure Coast.
With your help, we plan to make the 4th year the best yet! We will have eight chefs prepping different and delicious lionfish creations, we will increase the number of educational presenters and vendors available to guests, and we plan to reach out to the fishing community to increase competition in our 2-day fishing tournament. Our goal this year is to have 800 people at this year’s event, getting involved in conservation in a fun and interactive way.
The Sebastian Lionfish Fest is scheduled for June 22nd-23rd, 2018. The weekend’s events will be held at Captain Hiram’s. We will be hosting a fishing tournament and organizing a lionfish cook-off between local chefs in the Treasure Coast. This event will also have conservation-minded vendors and many educational organizations set up around Hiram’s so we can educate our community on coastal health and conservation efforts, the lionfish invasion and how everyone can protect our coastline by eating more lionfish. Proceeds from this event will go to a newly founded non-profit called Coastal Connections Inc. Their mission is to “Protect our coastal habitats through education and connecting people to the environment”. This organization conducts a handful of programs where people get to connect with nature through research and educational experiences.
